As a German, I still remember the times, when I also got some things wrong. =) So I can relate it would be very easy to be get puzzled by "sick". After being online every day for 15 years on mostly English speaking websites and watching lots of English videos, not much of biggie anymore.

Funny though, that "pretty damn dope" makes it only barely more understanding, what you wanted to say, but he got that one. =D If I was to say something something like "tierisch abgefahren", it means the same that you said, but nobody would have a clue, even people knowing just basic German.
